Nick Taylor is a Toronto-based musician, songwriter and filmmaker. Since the late 90s he has played in an impressive list of Toronto-based bands, including the much loved Deep Dark United, Lenin i Shumov, Blackeyes and The Dirty Hearts. For five years he was the guitar player for The Old Soul, who signed to Universal Music Canada and released three albums. He currently plays in the soul-rock band Steamboat, who have also released three records.
As a session guitarist he has also worked with artists including Ronley Teper, Mantler/Marker Starling, Sandro Perri, Sarah Blackwood (Walk off the Earth), Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel), Damo Suzuki (Can), Sunbear and Emilie Mover. He has also composed a commissioned piece for the National Ballet of Canada choreographer’s workshop and has scored two short films.
Nick has recorded three albums of his own material either under his name or under the band monicker Church & State. These are “Make Yourself a Stranger” (2008), Villager (2010) and Navigator (2014). He currently working on an Ontario Arts Council-funded project with classical composer Caitlin Smith.
Nick earns his living as a film and television editor and director.
